Pedro Maria Tonha ’Pedalé’ Hospital

The Pedro Maria Tonha “Pedalé” Hospital Complex could be completed by the end of the first semester or the beginning of the next, according to the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta. After a visit to the building site by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, the minister said that the work is progressing well, with the President recommending greater speed in completion.

Name of Work: Pedro Maria Tonha Pedalé Hospital

Location of Work: Morro Bento, Luanda

Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: The hospital will be a reference health unit in the country, offering specialized high-complexity services such as hemodialysis, a histocompatibility center and an oncology area. Transplants are also planned.

One of the highlights is the advanced training center, which will include a simulated operating room, an intensive care unit and robots for training and medical assistance, reinforcing the use of robotic technology already implemented in other health units.

It occupies an area of 42,157 m² and will have 144 beds, including 33 for hemodialysis. The three-storey main building will house services such as emergency, outpatient, operating room, imaging, radiotherapy and nuclear medicine. The basement will house technical areas such as a laundry, morgue, kitchen, hospital pharmacy and waste storage.

The complex will have a parking lot with 180 spaces and a helipad. It will also have a six-storey building with 20 two-bedroom apartments and a four-storey training center for specialist training.
