Luanda Road Improvement Programme
The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, recently visited the works of the Programme for the Improvement of Luanda’s Roads and the Requalification of Neighbourhoods, and was able to see that we are currently at 52 % physical execution.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
Name of the Work: Luanda Road Improvement Programme
Localização da Obra: Luanda Province
Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: This visit focused on the Neves Bendinha neighbourhood, where many roads have been improved, resulting in significantly better circulation. However, there are still some setbacks, such as the lack of micro- and macro-drainage infrastructure, which poses a problem during the rainy season due to the low coverage in the region.
The programme’s interventions are underway in the municipalities of Kilamba Kiaxi, Viana, Belas, Cazenga and Luanda. Luanda has less than 15% coverage of drainage infrastructure, but the programme aims to conserve, rehabilitate and build road, lighting, supply, drainage and street furniture infrastructure.
The aim of this programme is to improve the quality of life of citizens and to enhance old and new neighbourhoods. In addition, the Requalification Programme intends to pay attention to other neighbourhoods, such as Marçal, Kifica, Ramiros, Palanca, Dangereux, Mundial, and others that will be covered as part of the survey of works In terms of macro-drainage, Luanda has less than 15% coverage of the infrastructure, but with the approval of the PIIM programmes and the Programme for the Improvement of Luanda’s Roads, it is planned to build 72 km of macro-drainage.
Cost of the Work: 268 million dollars
Contractor: Omatapalo and Mota-Engil Consortium
