Bita and Quilonga projects

The Bita and Quilonga water stations are two major water supply projects being built in Luanda that will benefit more than seven million inhabitants. Total supply capacity: 750,000 cubic metres.

Name of the Work: Bita and Quilonga Projects

Location of Work: Luanda

Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: These two projects will enable EPAL to increase its capacity to respond to the chronic problem of drinking water supply. They will have a total supply of 750,000 cubic metres of water from the Kwanza River, divided into 250,000 cubic metres of water for Bita and 500,000 cubic metres for Quilonga.

According to the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the projects will make it possible to serve more than seven million inhabitants.

In addition to the water treatment plants that will be built, the household networks will be expanded. More than 500 household connections will be made to new neighbourhoods, such as Zango, and others that still don’t have taps inside their homes.

Cost of the work: 1.7 billion dollars and 1.3 billion dollars respectively.

Contractor: Consortium of companies including Suez and Portugal’s Mota Engil and Soares da Costa. Chinese state-owned company Sinohydro.
