BARRA DO DANDE OCEAN TERMINAL
The Barra do Dande ocean terminal will represent a milestone in economic development in the northern region of Angola. It is of extreme strategic importance, since the country needs energy security. To achieve this, it is essential to have energy production guarantees and a large fuel storage capacity. In fact, this terminal will be the largest storage centre in the country.
Work began in 2012, was suspended four years later and resumed in 2018. Completion and operation is scheduled for the second half of 2024.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
Name of work: Barra do Dande Ocean Terminal
Location of work: Dande Municipality, Bengo Province.
Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: This infrastructure is designed to ensure that there is no shortage of refined products for domestic consumption and also to bring together a greater supply of refined products for export.
The aim is to optimise all fuel storage and distribution logistics at national level, making this the main point for receiving and storing oil products and transporting them to the interior of the country in a safer, more efficient and less costly way.
In the first phase, this development will have the capacity to store 580,000 cubic metres of petrol, diesel and gas. In the second phase, this will depend on market demand and the capacity could rise to 728,500 cubic metres of fuel storage.
The terminal has a 96% national workforce, 11% of whom are women, 135 certified welders, 115 graduates, 63% of whom are engineers.
Cost of the work: 642 million dollars.
Contractor: OECI – Odebrecht Engenharia e Construção Internacional. In 2020 Sonangol awarded the construction contract through a public tender.
