New International Airport Dr. António Agostinho Neto

Luanda’s new international airport will be the third largest in Africa in terms of passenger transport capacity. It will be ready to receive aircraft from all over the world and will be a source of investment opportunities in the aeronautical, industrial, tourism and trade sectors.

The new airport will be prepared to handle 15 million passengers a year. They will also have a railway station linking the airport to the centre of Luanda, as well as other road access.

The new airport will also be an important logistics centre for the transport, distribution and redistribution of 130,000 tonnes of goods a year.

A social facility on the dimension of the national territory, with an estimated budget of 2.8 billion dollars, it represents a “milestone for the country”.

As well as paying homage to the illustrious figure of the late President Dr António Agostinho Neto, who was a man with a unique idiosyncrasy, this infrastructure will on a large scale promote countless socio-economic benefits.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

Name of the work: Aeroporto Internacional Dr. Agostinho Neto

Location of work: a: Bom Jesus urban district, Icolo Bengo municipality.

Description of what it is and what it is intended to achieve: Located 42 km from the centre of the capital Luanda, the new airport covers a total area of 1,324 hectares and is designed to accommodate the critical category F aircraft (Airbus – A380). It will have a capacity for 15 million passengers a year, of which 10 million will be international and the rest domestic.

With two parallel runways, an aircraft parking apron, a maintenance apron, a cargo apron and an insulation apron, it is designed to handle an annual cargo volume of 130,000 tonnes.

Main goals:

– Economic development of the country and gaining greater visibility, with the aim of increasing turnover and tourism.

– Creation of a national civil aviation academy.

Cost: 2.8 billion dollars

Contractor: Chinese state-owned company Aviation Industry Corp of China (AVIC).
