Drainage system and supply network expansion – Sumbe
The work on the wastewater drainage project and expansion of the supply network in the city of Sumbe, located in the province of Kwanza-Sul, will benefit around 35,000 inhabitants of the city and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of next year.

Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: The project consists of installing sewage networks over an extension of 37 kms. Currently, the physical execution of the works is around 96%, while the financial execution is 85%. The work is in its final phase, with assembly and testing of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) equipment scheduled for December this year.
This project represents a significant step forward for local communities, as it will enable the distribution of treated water to thousands of families from the home network. In addition, this project is crucial in the fight against diseases caused by groundwater contamination. The physical execution of the project has received institutional support from the local authorities, who are committed to completing the work.
The work is being coordinated by the Ministry responsible and financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB). With the completion of the project, it is hoped not only to improve the wastewater drainage infrastructure and expand the supply network, but also to have a positive impact on public health and the quality of life of the local population.
