Fertilizer factory in Soyo

A fertilizer factory is being built in Zaire province, in the municipality of Soyo, to meet the country’s domestic needs. Angola currently imports more than 300,000 tons of urea fertilizer every year to meet its domestic needs. With the start-up of this plant, the country should generate a surplus that will be used for export.

Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: With this factory, Angola would no longer have to import a large part of the fertilizers it needs, according to official projections.

The plant is due to be completed in 2027 and will have an annual production capacity of 1.3 million tons of nitrogen fertilizer, better known as Urea, whose function is to maintain the growth and healthy development of roots, stems and leaves.

The factory is being set up in the Kintambi area, on the outskirts of the city, on a gross area of 152 hectares, 45 of which will be used to set up the plant.

Deforestation and soil compaction work is underway at the site following the establishment of the factory which, in the first phase, will generate 4,700 direct and indirect jobs, with a further 1,200 jobs to be created during its operation.
