Luau General Hospital
Angola’s health system will have a new hospital unit that has been undergoing rehabilitation and expansion work for around two years. The Luau General Hospital (HGL) was (re)inaugurated on 16 December 2023 and will be one of Angola’s reference units for training doctors.
The HGL will initially have more than 100 beds and several reference services, among other facilities.

Location of Work: Luau, Moxico Province
Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: The infrastructure will include paediatrics, obstetrics, ophthalmology, gynaecology, maternity, operating theatres, intensive care, haemotherapy, blood blocks, laboratories, nurseries, sterilisation, imaging, X-ray, pharmacy and other facilities, which will make it a benchmark hospital in the region.
Reference should also be made to the incubator services, oxygen factory, morgue, laundry, kitchen and doctors’ residences, which will make this unit one of the biggest hospital references in the country.
This new hospital will provide care for patients from the municipalities of Alto-Zambeze, Luacano, Cameia, Cazage (Lunda-Sul), and Dilolo (Democratic Republic of Congo).
Cost of the work: 3 billion, 955 million and 746 thousand kwanzas – approximately 5 million dollars.
