Luanda Music and Theatre Palace
At the beginning of December 2023, the Angolan government launched a contract for the construction of the future Palace of Music and Theatre and Artist’s House, in the former National Assembly building. Completion is scheduled for 2025.
According to a press release, the aim of the work is to reformulate the initial concept of the Palácio da Música e do Teatro project in order to accommodate a residential and care facility for senior artists, inspired by Lisbon’s Casa do Artista.

Location of Work: Luanda, urban district of Ingombota
Description of what it is and what it aims to achieve: This project, the responsibility of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism (MINCULTUR), provides for the rehabilitation and conversion of the former National Assembly building into the Luanda Music and Theatre Palace.
The project will cover a total area of 12,752 m2 and is currently occupied by several buildings, including the Central Building – the former National Assembly building, which until 1975 housed the Restauração Cinema-Theatre.
With this intervention, MINCULTURA aims to create a building with fluid spaces, where art, culture, leisure and recreation are in communion with the exterior and interior spaces.
